The method involves actuating an injection valve (19) of a combustion engine (11) for injecting a fuel quantity (qi) during injection period into a combustion chamber (15) of the combustion engine. An impact sound signal is detected by an impact sound sensor (23) of the combustion engine during actuation period. The injection period of an injection process is determined based on the detected impact sound signal, where the injection process occurs at specific time interval than an incineration process in the combustion chamber of the combustion engine. An independent claim is also included for a direct injecting combustion engine for actuating an injection valve.
