The method involves evaluating current values and/or voltage values of electrochemical cells of a battery in response to a charging profile with which the battery is charged during charging process. Charging current (510) and charging voltage are varied during charging process. The parameters of a battery model to be evaluated are obtained from the evaluated current and/or voltage values. The battery model is adapted based on the obtained parameters. Internal resistance and/or capacity of the battery are determined by the evaluated current and/or voltage values. An independent claim is also included for a motor car comprising an electric drive motor.
