The system has a digital camera (10) i.e. film camera, for recording images. The digital camera is provided with a signal processing device (18) for producing test data produced by image data. An evaluating device (20) is connected with a data memory (22) to produce counter test data for the stored image data of the respective image. The signal processing device or the evaluating device compares the test data with the counter test data, and outputs an error message when the test data deviates from the counter test data. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring data storage in a digital camera.
