The device has a trocar with a continuous channel for implementation of an intra-abdominal camera, and a tubular shaft (1) provided with a rigid portion (3). A control device is provided at a bendable proximate region (5) of the tubular shaft for controlling bend of a distal bendable region (4). A distal extremity of the tubular shaft comprises a camera retainer for releasably fixable support of the intra-abdominal camera. The trocar comprises an opening for the rigid portion of the tubular shaft. Diameter of the tubular shaft is smaller than diameter of the opening. An independent claim is also included for a method for inserting and holding an intra-abdominal camera into a body cavity of a patient.
