The vehicle has a component i.e. seat cross beam (4), made of a fiber reinforced plastic composite, where the fiber reinforced plastic composite comprises fibers which are embedded into a plastic matrix. A heat source superheats a predetermined portion of the component such that strength of the plastic matrix is reduced while mechanical properties of the fibers in the fiber reinforced plastics composite are insignificantly influenced. The heat source delivers heat to the portion 6 of the component mainly by thermal radiation energy, convection energy, and thermal conduction energy. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a vehicle.
