The device has a sound sensor (10) attached to a container (2), where the sound sensor is connected to an evaluation unit (16). The evaluation unit is arranged for determining the Helmholtz frequency of the sound waves that are received by the sound sensor. The change in frequency is determined by the evaluation unit, where the frequency is generated during filling process of a container. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for determining filling level of a container; and (2) a sewage system for a vehicle, particularly an airplane.
