The method involves determining two periodical values (PHI1, PHI2) from input values (C1, C2, S1, S2). A coarse position value (P1) of item is determined from the input values and a unique computed correction matrix (KMC). A correction value (K) for the periodical values is determined. Errors in another coarse position value (P2) of item are corrected by adding a fixed value to a corrected coarse position value (P1K) of item. A value of the correction matrix is adjusted based on a mistake vector. An independent claim is also included for a device for facilitating accurate determination of an absolute position of an angle measuring system.
