PURPOSE: A system and method for authenticating a tree based sensor network using an XOR chain are provided to improve security by using hashed values for authentication. CONSTITUTION: A transmission node generates a first key chain parameter row, a second key chain parameter row, and authentication information by receiving an initial key from a central server. A reception node receives the authentication information of the transmission node. The transmission node successively transmits a first parameter and a second parameter of the same row from the first and second key chain parameter rows with a message to the reception node. The reception node authenticates the message by comparing the authentication information with an XOR result by XOR-operating the first parameter and the second parameter.
