The riveting method involves supplying a rod material (2) into a rivet hole (10) and cutting the rod material. Forming sections of the rod material are heated, where a setting head (6) and a closing head (8) are formed. A thermoplastic or a thermoplastic mixture is utilized as the rod material and is provided with fibers or fabrics, particularly carbon, glass, aramid or boron fibers. An independent claim is also included for a rivet, which has a rivet body.
