The time piece has a week mechanism (22) which controls a week hand (20) of a rank of a week in a year and is controlled mechanically by a clock movement. A selection device (76) selects the total number of weeks in one year to control the week mechanism, such that the hand carries out either a fifty-two week cycle or a fifty-three week cycle. An auxiliary selection needle (82) displays a total number of selected weeks.
