Disclosed is a selection method. In the selection method, at least one genotype of each of a polymorphism marker A and a polymorphism marker B is identified in a barley species to be examined, wherein the polymorphism marker A is specified by the multiple alignment of a nucleotide sequence for a region around each of Haruna-type and Kendall-type barley protein Z7 gene loci and the polymorphism marker B is specified by the multiple alignment of a nucleotide sequence for a region around each of Haruna-type and Barke-type barley protein Z7 gene loci. A barley species having a genotype identical to a Haruna-type genotype is selected as a barley species having a high protein Z7 content, or a barley species having a genotype identical to a Kendall-type or Barke-type genotype is selected as a barley species having a low protein Z7 content.
