Environmental stress such as soil salinity and phosphorus deficiency are limiting factors for leguminous that productivity depends on symbiotic nitrogen fixation . inoculation of legumes is a process of introducing nitrogen-fixing symbiotic bacteria to improve the nitrogen nutrition of the plant. However, the success of this inoculation is dependent on the choice of the strain to be inoculated. So, the search for specific strains, efficient, competitive and responsive to binding conditions of the environment is a priority for the formulation of efficient inoculums. This invention relates to selection by gamma radiation (800 Gy) of rhizobia strain tolerant to salt (564 mM NaCI) and phosphorus deficiency (0%) for the chickpea inoculation. The inoculation of chickpea has shown a marked improvement in nodulation and yield. This strain is recommended for the inoculation of chickpea grown in saline and phosfhorus deficiency soils.
