Disclosed is a transgenic plant: (a) which has been derived from a non-transgenic plant by stably transforming the non-transgenic plant with a desired polynucleotide consisting essentially of one or more native genetic elements isolated from: (i) the non-transgenic plant; (ii) a plant of the same species as the non-transgenic plant; or (iii) a plant that is sexually interfertile with the non-transgenic plant; and wherein the desired polynucleotide does not comprise a nucleotide sequence that is identical in nucleotide sequence to an Agrobacterium derived T-DNA border sequence; and (b) in which the desired polynucleotide modifies the expression of a trait in the transgenic plant compared to the expression of the trait in the non-transgenic plant.
