The present invention presents a methodology for estimation of sediment yield in watersheds where mining activity is observed and mine dumps are present. This method is more relevant in areas with open cast mining methods are employed and large areas are affected by the mining activity and large OB dumps are formed. Higher erosion and sedimentation rates may be naturally expected in such watersheds and methods to monitor these changes are required for adopting sustainable development practices. The original method for computation of sediment yield using (9) gives lower values as the land use classes especially associated with mining areas are not reflected in the method. Modified vegetal factor method hence is more appropriate for monitoring and sediment yield estimation.
