In the present invention, there is disclosed a diecasting machine having a hot chamber with a casting container, a casting plunger, a casting plunger drive (1) and a control device (20) for pressing the metal melt from the casting container via a riser bore, a mouthpiece and a gate wherein a pulsation device is assigned to the casting plunger drive (1) and is connectable in the final phase of the filling operation (tiF) and whose vibrations act upon a drive (1) shaft (10) of the casting plunger. There is also disclosed a method of operating the hot chamber diecasting machine wherein the method is characterized in that at the end of a mold filling operation, at least in a narrowest cross-section of a feed orifice, a compressional vibration is generated, which prevents the molten metal from rapidly solidifying.
