The method involves determining a received noise level (E208) according to a perception model, where the received noise level corresponds to noise level induced by the emission of a sound signal of a preset amplitude in an environment. The threshold to be applied to a component of the sound signal is determined (E220) based on the received noise level and the preset amplitude, and the received noise generated by the sound signal is maintained below a certain level. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for attenuating noise generated in environment during reproduction of a sound signal in the environment (2) a device for determining a threshold to be applied to a component of a sound signal to be emitted in environment (3) a device for reproducing a sound signal (4) a computer program comprising a set of instructions to perform threshold determination method.
