Method for modifying substrate specificity of polyol oxidase, comprises (a) providing the polyol oxidase comprising an amino acid sequence that is at least 85% identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 (where sequences are not defined), and (b) introducing one or more amino acid substitutions in the count according to SEQ ID NO: 1 in the polyol oxidase. Independent claims are included for: (1) the polyol oxidase exhibiting modified substrate specificity compared to the polyol oxidase comprising amino acid sequences of SEQ ID NO: 1, with a polyalcohol as a substrate for polyol oxidase; (2) a nucleic acid encoding the polyol oxidase; (3) a non-human host cell comprising the nucleic acid or a vector or the polyol oxidase; (4) producing the polyol oxidase, comprising culturing the host cell, and isolating polyol oxidase from the culture medium or from the host cell; (5) an agent, preferably a washing or cleaning agent, bleaching agent, disinfectant or cosmetic agent, comprising the polyol oxidase and a substrate for the polyol oxidase at a concentration of 2 mu g to 20 mg (preferably 50 mu g to 10 mg) per g of the agent, where the polyol oxidase in the agent is wrapped with a substance impermeable to the polyol oxidase at room temperature or in the absence of water; and (6) a method for enzymatic production of hydrogen peroxide, preferably in a washing liquor, bleaching composition or disinfectant composition, comprising applying the agent in at least one of the process steps, or catalytically activating the polyol oxidase in the presence of a substrate for the polyol oxidase, where 40 mu g to 4 g (preferably 200 mu g to 1 g) of polyol oxidase is used per application.
