The device has a calculation unit for computing a guide signal (Wt) that is applied on a control path (6) and minimizing a configurable objective function under adherence to associated inequality secondary conditions. Points of discontinuity forming borders of sensitivity environments are determined such that approximation of the guide signal takes place in input parameter vector subspaces lying between the points of discontinuity. The objective function and the associated inequality secondary conditions are configured over a configuration interface and stored in a configuration memory. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a control path.
