The sensor (1) has a piezo ceramic transducer (20) arranged at bottom (32) of a resonator pot (30) for generating ultrasonic vibrations. A damping material (10) for damping is introduced into the resonator pot. The damping material is made of a liquid component (12) and a solid component (14), where the liquid component changes into solid state according to the introduction of material into the pot. The solid component is made of foamed materials and balls from polystyrene and/or blowing glass and/or ceramic. The liquid component is made of silicone and/or polyurethane material. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an ultrasonic sensor.
