The capsule (1) has a biocompatible housing (2) housing a sensor (3) for acquiring medically relevant data. The sensor is arranged on the outer surface of the housing. The sensor has an electrode (4) which is produced of an acid-fast noble metal e.g. platinum and gold, and another electrode (5) which is produced of silver chloride. An electrical voltage is applied between the electrodes, and a change in an electric variable e.g. potential, electric current and electric resistance, is measured when ammonia is present between the electrodes.
