The method involves guiding moisture process gases to a membrane base at a primary side by a heating and water vapor transducer according to individual process steps. The surplus water vapor is transferred from the respective process gases to a secondary side reactant gas stream for a steam fuel processor. The reactant gas stream is heated at the membrane base by an auxiliary heat exchanger (2) before entering into the heating and water vapor transducer, where the transducer receives process gas stream at the primary side before or after a carbon monoxide shift reaction stage (9). An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for recovering water vapor in a fuel cell heater or fuel cell combined heat and power unit.
