The invention relates to a method for recycling aluminum from printed beverage cans, in which the beverage cans are comminuted into small particles and these are first cleaned of adhering beverage residues and then adhering paint residues. The first cleaning stage is a spin stage. The second downstream cleaning stage for the paint is a thermal cleaning stage to which an exhaust gas afterburning is assigned. The thermally cleaned particles are then stirred into a molten bath and melted.
