The method involves positioning a magnet element (10) and a magnetic sensor relative together according to a predetermined target orientation. Displacement between the element and the sensor is detected while the magnet element and the sensor are positioned. The magnet element is magnetized by a magnetic field, which permanently holds the magnet element with a magnetizing structure that corresponds to the target orientation. The magnet element is mounted based on the orientation in an application environment of the magnet element and the sensor according to the magnetization. An independent claim is also included for a device for adjusting orientation of a magnet element relative to a magnetic sensor.
