The device has a crankshaft-firm component that is in a power transmission connection with a cam shaft-firm component by two pressure chambers. The connection causes relative rotation or hydraulic clamping of the cam shaft-firm component during application of pressure that is formed by an electronic controller. A frequency (f) of a control signal is occasionally reduced in relation to usually adjusted fundamental frequency in such a way that hydraulic channels (A, B) are briefly opened by the caused adjustment of a piston (1) of a regulating valve.
