The device (6) has two clamping jaws (16, 21) defining a holding rail (5) and a holding device clamped to the rail in a clamping position. The clamping jaws are fixed in the clamping position by an elastic energy accumulator i.e. spring, in the rail. Release devices are moved relative to each other during activation of the clamping jaws against an action of the accumulator for maintaining clamping action, such that the support device is slided along the rail. A bearing surface is inclined relative to a tangent at a circular trajectory of one of the clamping jaws.
