The brake disc comprises a support disc (10) made of thermally stable light metal alloy, and a thermally insulating friction layer (30) that is formed from a metal alloy having nanocrystals. An adhesion promoting layer lies between the friction layer and the support disc. The friction layer is produced by thermal spraying. The thermal spraying is flame spraying and wire plasma spraying. The friction layer is made of steel alloy. The support disc is produced from aluminum alloy-extruded profile. An independent claim is included for a method for the production of brake disc.
