The mechanism has minute, hour and quarter-hour racks cooperating with pallets to actuate hammers to initiate a striking operation. A block comprises quarter-hour cams (22, 23, 24) comprising obturator mechanisms i.e. flaps, pivoted on a hub of a driving wheel (21). The wheel is integrated to the quarter-hour cams. The mechanisms are moved between an active position, in which the mechanisms close notches of the quarter-hour cams, and a rest position in which the mechanisms are subjected to elastic return action for being maintained in the rest position.
