HIGH SPEED DATA COMMUNICATIONS CONNECTOR WITH REDUCED MODAL CONVERSION, PARTICULARLY RELATED TO COMMUNICATION PLUGS CONFIGURED TO EXHIBIT REDUCED LEVELS OF MODAL SIGNAL CONVERSION
PURPOSE: A high speed data communications connector with reduced modal conversion is provided to reduce crosstalk resulting from inter-modal coupling.;CONSTITUTION: Inside a plug(20), signals(80) transmitted by a first wire(W-3) induce common mode signals(82) on a first composite wire along a first coupling region(84) whereat the first wire is untwisted from a second wire(W-6) and adjacent the first composite wire and a plug contact(P-T3) is adjacent other plug contacts(P-T1, P-T2). A first portion of the first coupling region where the wire is adjacent the first composite wire has a length(CL-1a)" A second portion of the first coupling region where the plug contact is adjacent the other plug contacts has a length(CL-1b). Thus, the first coupling region has a length equal to a sum of the lengths. The common mode signals increase in magnitude along the length away from the other plug contacts. Therefore, the longer the length of the first portion of the first coupling region, the greater the magnitude of the common mode signals induced on the first composite wire. The common mode signals coupled to the wires add to the common mode signals that are inherently introduced by the plug contacts and their arrangement inside the plug. Common mode signals(86) leave the plug via the wires and may enter a system, a device, or the like connected to the plug.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2011
