A handover method based on a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) core network and a WCDMA core network are provided in the present invention. The method includes that: during a terminal handover process which involves Service Radio Network Subsystem (SRNS) relocation between Serving GPRS Support Nodes (SGSNs), if a new SGSN selects a new Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN), Packet Data Protocol (PDP) bearer between the new SGSN and the new GGSN are established for the terminal, and a terminal Access Identity (AID) is sent to the new GGSN; the new GGSN allocates a new Routing Identity (RID) for the terminal, and stores the mapping relationship between the new RID and the terminal AID; the new GGSN or the new SGSN sends an RID register request to an Identity and Location Register (ILR) that the terminal belongs to, the request carries the new RID, and the ILR that the terminal belongs to, updates the stored RID of the terminal; When the handover is completed, the bearer related with the terminal and between the ex-SGSN and the ex-GGSN is released, and the terminal connects with the external packet data network via the new SGSN and the new GGSN. The present invention can take fully advantage of the existing relocation process, has no impact on the consistency of the existing relocation process, and has better feasibility.
