The invention relates to a method for producing a resistant material. Bentonite starting material (B), bentonite-like starting material, or clay-like starting material is subjected to a carbothermal treatment step, wherein the starting material is exposed to temperatures above 250 degrees Celsius. The starting material (B) is put in a glass-like and/or ceramic-like state in the process. Then, the starting material (B) is allowed to cool down, wherein a hard resistant material is formed.
