The adapter piece (1) has a linear lamp-socket (3), and a holder (5) provided for a fluorescent lamp. An electronic ballast is provided for operating the fluorescent lamp, and an adapter housing (2) is designed in a tube-shape. The socket projects into the housing, and the ballast is arranged in the housing. The housing is made from plastic or glass, and has a long section and two short sections, where the short sections are formed at opposite sides of the long section and arranged parallel to each other.
