A method for prevention of perinatal HIV infection comprises the implementation of antiretroviral effect of zidovudine as an inhibitor of nucleoside reverse transcriptase, to a woman from 36 weeks of pregnancy and during delivery, as well as viramune, as non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, to an infant in the first 72 hours of life in a given dosage regime.
