In a station for stepping up the pressure in a natural gas or other fuel gas pipeline, the waste heat discharged from a gas turbine is utilized to generate steam by a waste heat recovery boiler. This steam is passed to a steam turbine to rotate the latter. And the output torque from the steam turbine is utilized to drive a compressor so as to compress fuel gas that is a subject of conveyance. Since the waste heat that has heretofore been discarded is utilized to drive the compressor, the efficiency of the compressor increases, reducing the amount of emission of carbon dioxide. Further, it becomes possible to gain profits by conversion into money of increments of CO2 emission credit and contract for delivery that result from increased efficiency.
