PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine an optimal model degree of a linear prediction model without actually determining a code amount for each model degree. PSOLUTION: A PARCOR coefficient for each linear prediction model to a model degree (m) and a forward prediction error sequence and/or a backward prediction error sequence in the model degree (m) are calculated, respectively from an input signal.
