The installation (1) has a series of measurement probes (2) respectively installed at locations (B1-B4) of an environmental site, where each probe includes a scintillator crystal emitting light in response to an ionizing radiation. The crystal is coupled to an optical fiber (7) collecting part of the emitted light. An acquisition and analyzing unit (11) includes a series of photoelectric converters respectively connected to the fibers for delivering electrical signals. An analyzing system of the unit analyzes the delivered electrical signals to quantify the radiations detected by the probes. The crystal is selected from cerium-doped lutetium oxyorthosilicate, cerium-doped lutetium yttrium orthosilicate, cerium-doped gadolinium oxyorthosilicate, cerium-doped gadolinium yttrium oxyorthosilicate, cerium-doped lutetium aluminum garnet, cerium-doped lanthanum bromide, cerium-doped lanthanum chloride, cerium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet, cerium-doped yttrium aluminum perovskite, cerium-doped or undoped lutetium aluminum perovskite, cerium-doped or undoped lutetium-yttrium orthoaluminate perovskite, cerium-doped or undoped cadmium tungstate and cerium-doped or undoped lead tungstate crystals.
