The device (40) has an electrical motor comprising an electronic control block (30) that defines a seat control strategy. A position sensor (23) e.g. Hall effect sensor, determines a position of a seat. An actuator (34) is connected to a motor shaft for moving the seat according to the control strategy. The seat is electrically and manually positioned at one speed, and advanced towards the front at another speed. Rear places of a motor vehicle are accessed, when the seat is advanced towards front.
