The method involves acoustically detecting environment of a normal vehicle (2) using a detection unit (5) i.e. sensor. A warning is issued to a vehicle driver of the normal using detected acoustic sensor signals (S). An approaching direction (R) and/or an approaching speed of an emergency vehicle (3) is detected by evaluating Doppler-effects of the detected acoustic sensor signals and outputted to the normal vehicle driver. An acoustic source e.g. radio, is automatically disconnected from interior space of the normal vehicle after detecting acoustic sensor signals. An independent claim is also included for a device for sensing a special signal outputted from an emergency vehicle by a driver of a normal vehicle.
