The filter element (1) has a pleated structure, and side band sections (3A, 3B) partially attached on an opposite pleated profile (6) of the structure. The side band sections comprise a thermally deformable side band material e.g. fleece material such as matted polyethylene terephthalate fiber. A guiding section (4A) is distant from the filter element, and is laterally formed at one of the side band sections such that a side band section of another filter element engages with the guiding section. The guiding section is made from the thermally deformable side band material. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a filter element.
