A composite filter media structure comprises a base substrate and a nanofiber layer deposited on one side of base substrate. The base substrate comprises a nonwoven synthetic fabric formed from several fibers by spun-bond process. The base substrate has minimum filtration efficiency of 50% or more measured based on ASHRAE 52.2-1999 test procedure. The composite filter media structure has a minimum filtration efficiency of 75% or more, measured based on ASHRAE 52.2-1999 test procedure.
