The method involves detecting change of steering wheel angle, and determining and evaluating duration of a steering pause and number of the steering pauses based on the detected change of the steering wheel angle. An average number of relevant steering pause is determined at beginning of driving via a pre-determined initial time window. A threshold value is pre-determined for average number of the relevant steering pause. Modification and/or activation of a driver assisting system are implemented, during exceeding of the threshold value.
