The method involves operating a pulse power converter (4) having higher impulse repetition frequency (fPWM) with less motor load of a synchronous motor (2). An additional torque component is produced with less motor load of the synchronous motor without a torque-producing effect. Motor current, which is constant during time average, is produced with small motor load. The impulse repetition frequency is controlled depending on the motor load of the synchronous motor such that temporal change of a temperature guidance parameter does not exceed a maximum value. An independent claim is also included for a drive system.
