Method for determining level of e.g. glucose, in diabetic patient by optical spectroscopy, involves determining blood sugar level from received absorption spectrum, and transmitting determined blood sugar level to appliance unit
The method involves implanting an optical, monolithic, miniaturized spectrometer as an implant into a body of a human such that a measuring cell receives a remitted absorption spectrum of a stray radiation in a bloodstream of the human. The measuring cell is brought into the bloodstream and connected with a micro spectrometer. A blood sugar level is determined from the received absorption spectrum, and the determined blood sugar level is evaluated, stored and transmitted telemetrically to an externally provided appliance unit i.e. insulin pump. An independent claim is also included for a measuring instrument for determining blood-sugar-and/or other blood levels of a human by optical spectroscopy.
