The energy management system has two on-board electrical circuits (2,3) with low voltage energy storage (4) and high voltage energy storage (5), where the low voltage energy storage has a lower voltage level than the high voltage energy storage. A generator (6) provides a direct current voltage. A control unit (7) is provided with switching devices (8,9), which switch the on-board electrical circuits from energy withdrawal to energy storage and vice versa. An independent claim is also included for a method for power distribution in an electrical system.
