The device (27) has an ignition laser (26) with a laser-active solid body, and an outlet window for a laser beam (24). A pre-chamber is formed in housing, and is limited in sections by the outlet window and a replaceable insert. The pre-chamber includes a base plate on a side turned away from the ignition laser. An opening is formed in the base plate of the pre-chamber, and is arranged diagonal to a wall of the pre-chamber.
