The method involves determining a trajectory (10) from an initial position to a destination position found within a parking space (20) based on characteristics data about the parking space. The trajectory starts from a vehicle reference point (P), during parking process. The trajectory is specified at an entire area between the initial position and the destination position by continuous function. The continuous function is scaled based on parameters such as a parking space- depth (PSD), length and longitudinal and lateral vehicle positions. An independent claim is also included for a device for assisting a driver, during parking of the vehicle in the parking space.
