A sliding bearing composite material (2) comprises a support layer (4) of steel and a lead-free bearing metal layer (6) made of copper alloy, particularly copper-tin bronze or brass, and a galvanic electroplated lead free antifriction layer (10) based on tin-copper. A galvanic deposited barrier layer (8) is provided between the lead-free bearing metal layer and the antifriction layer. An electrical layer (12) having a thickness of 1-10 microns is additionally deposited on one side of the antifriction layer.
