The method involves determining temperature of a battery, and simultaneously measuring voltage applied at terminals of the battery and current flowing through the battery. Frequency dependent correlation between the voltage and the current is evaluated. Condition of inhomogeneity of components of the battery is deduced from the evaluation. Reference values for the battery are stored depending on operating parameters e.g. temperature and open-circuit voltage, of the battery, where inhomogeneity condition is inhomogeneity in concentration of electrolytes. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for determining a charging condition of a battery.
