The system has a light source (30) e.g. LED, for generating light spots (50), and a camera (40) e.g. time-of-flight camera, for detection of the light spots. The light source is designed such that the light spots with less than or equal to half refresh rate of the camera appear bright. An evaluation device is designed such that the light spots are identified by differentiation of images with bright light spots and images with dark light spots. The camera has a spectral filter i.e. long pass filter, aligned to emission wavelength of the light source. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a robot comprising a manipulation arm (2) a method for controlling a robot.
