The device (300) has an illuminating unit (301) with light sources (302-304) e.g. LED, and an image generation unit (307) e.g. LCD, illuminated by the illuminating unit for producing an image. A sensor (309) e.g. color sensor, detects light emitted by the illuminating unit, and outputs a signal. Temperature detection units (312-314) detect the sources, and detect a temperature of the light source. A control unit controls the illuminating unit under the consideration of the signal from the sensor and the detected temperature in such a manner that the image parameter of the image is adjusted. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a projection device.
