A method for the production of monomers uronic acids, comprising the steps of:a. fermentation of a polyuronic acid producing bacterial strain, the epimerase - gene has been inactivated;example, isolating the polyuronic acid from the supernatant of the fermentation broth;c. hydrolyzing the polyuronic acid from step b;d. isolating the uronic acid monomer from the process product of step c,wherein said polyuronic acid is constructed from a monomer.
